Aspiring Gardener
Has anyone tried those upside down tomato planters? Do they really work? I've seen the same thing for strawberries too. Also, if I put one on my covered balcony in Las Vegas, would they grow well and would that keep them safe from the bugs? I guess these questions are mostly for Inger-Lis, but if anyone else knows anything, that would be useful.

I have a few friends that tried them here in Cali...they really had great results with them. I think the covered patio may help protect them from the heat a bit in LV...good luck! I didn't know they had ones for strawberries! I've gotta check those out! I LOVE STRAWBERRIES!!!
ReplyDeleteI've heard lots of good things about those hanging tomato planters. (We used to make them at the nursery I worked at) Just make sure you get a cherry or patio tomato variety. They dry out super fast though, so if doing this in Las Vegas, you will really have to stay on top of watering- probably twice a day during the summer. I wouldn't worry about bugs too much.
ReplyDeleteI've never really seen hanging strawberry pots because strawberries come back year after year and would probably outgrow such a thing really fast. But I have my strawberries planted in a clay strawberry pot- its about 2 feet tall, with holes around the sides. I like it because its much easier to control the slugs which love to eat them.
